I started a load of laundry and then went upstairs to put some things away. I turned on the faucet in the bathroom and there was no water. What the heck? The water downstairs was just working and I just started a load of laundry in the basement. I yelled to Anand to come up. We thought maybe the filter needed to be changed, so he headed to the basement. All of a sudden I hear him yell: "oh my God-there is water everywhere!". I went down and sure enough-there was a good few inches on the CARPET-yes, I said carpet.
The boiler had burst and we were rapidly filling up with hot water. We called the fuel company, they came over to assess the situation. Sure enough, the boiler was busted.
So much for being relaxed! We shop vac'd (is that a word?) the water up and Anand pulled the carpet. I am SO thankful that at least we were home when it happened! I can't imagine if the water had stood in the basement for days!
And $1400 later, we had hot water the next day!
