If you aren't familiar with the Whole30, here is a quick overview: it's a 30 day "challenge" where you cut out all processed foods and the foods that are the most allergic/sensitivity-prone. After 30 days, you can slowly add those foods back in to see how they affect you. I know that I am sensitive to gluten-I feel so much better when I cut it. But, it's a tough cycle to stop-the more I eat, the more I want. So, I'm taking this challenge to see how I feel. It won't be easy, but I'm telling myself that it's just 30 days. I know that I do better with a plan-having lists of compliant & non-compliant foods help me make better choices-I need the structure.
So, yesterday morning I got up and was a bit reluctant. I told myself that I would have my coffee and decide after. I had my coffee (with cream & sugar) and then decided to just go for it...no negative self-talk and STOP listening to the voice in my head telling me I can't do it. I made turkey & veggie meatballs and had them for brunch. Then, it was time to go grocery shopping. I stocked up on salmon, shrimp, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and mushrooms and headed home ready to face this challenge head-on. I had tea and a handful of raspberries & a handful of raw cashews while I prepped dinner. I baked some sweet potatoes and regular ones for the kids. I am not a fan of sweet potatoes, but I figured it would be a good, compliant starch to have. Better than nothing? I sautéed some onions, garlic and mushrooms with chicken-it was so good! I served mine over a bed of kale. In the evening, I had a couple of handfuls of raw cashews & grapes to snack on. I wasn't really hungry, but had the urge to snack-definitely a habit, not hunger.
So, day 1 was a success. I'm literally taking it minute by minute as needed. I can do this!
