There was a blood drive at the gym today, so I decided to give a shot at donating! The last time I donated was in 1994-the next time I tried, they wouldn't let me due to an irregular heartbeat. My heart was skipping 10 beats per minute-never really did figure out why. Then, fast forward to 2006, I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy after delivering the girls. I was just cleared by my cardiologist in August-first normal echocardiogram in 4.5 years! I figured I'd give donating blood another shot. As I told my friend, Monika, today-I am O negative, so I'm a hot commodity :)
Monika came along as my photographer for the big event!
Here I am reading the guidelines for blood donation (notice the sticker they gave me!):

Here I am with my phlebotomist:

Monika even snuck into the "confidential" screening area! Hemoglobin wad 12.9 (awesome!), no fever, and blood pressure was normal, so I was good to go!

Here I am lying on the table!

And after my donation:

It was a great experience and I'll definitely do it again! It's a great feeling knowing that you helped someone :)
