Day 4! I'm on a roll...

Day 4 of working out...DONE! As anticipated, my diet has also improved since I started working out. Last night, I had wild salmon, quinoa, and steamed broccoli.

Yesterday was my facilitation meeting. We had a nutritionist (Becky, my former trainer who I love!) talk to us for about an hour. It was very interesting! One thing that stood out to me was how out of whack my portion control is. I mean, I knew that portion control was one of my weaknesses, but holy cow-I didn't realize just how out of whack they really are! I also learned another little nugget-something that I kind of knew, but didn't know exactly why. The whole "diet" thing and the effect it has on your body. Your brain needs carbs (healthy ones of course!) to function. So, all of these "low carb, no carb, Dukan, South Beach, Atkins, etc." diets do our bodies no favors. Will you lose weight if you follow one of these "diets"? Yes-you will. But, the weight you lose is MUSCLE. And once you go back to eating carbs again (and you will because no one can sustain that long-term), you will gain the weight back. But, it's not just that you gain the weight back-you will gain FAT instead of the muscle that you lost in the first place. Supposedly, there is research out there that says  that the reason so many people are being diagnosed with pre-diabetes is because of this rollercoaster dieting and replacing muscle with fat. Becky said it best with this: "I like to say that world peace ended with the Atkins diet"-love it!

So, my goal for the next week is to track my food and pay attention to portion control.

UPDATE: I met with my trainer, Tony, this morning. GREAT MEETING! We talked, I cried, the usual (LOL!) and I feel like I have a solid plan! I'm going to continue cardio in the morning (5 mornings per week) and track my food while paying attention to my portion sizes (or energy in as Tony called it) for the next two weeks. We are going to meet biweekly to see how things are progressing and make any tweaks necessary to get me moving along on my goals. We will continue to meet biweekly and take a look at my numbers and make any adjustments needed. If none are needed, I will continue doing what I'm doing until the numbers stop progressing. I am excited and think this will be exactly what I need!

A key thing that Tony said that stuck out to me:

"YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE THIS FARTHER THAN YOU EVER HAVE"

This was said after I kept going on about how I have gone forward, then gone backward several times. It seems like every time I hit a hurdle I go backwards. BUT, the one thing that I know now is how working out always makes me feel better. Like they say, you never regret a workout, but you always regret not working out.
