2011 in Review...

In January, I decided to renew my journey towards being healthy.

In February, we bought a new truck, I reminisced about Valentine's Day.

In March, we ditched cable & satellite tv and haven't regretted it for a minute! I also decided to resign as President-elect of my professional association in order to take care of ME! It was the right choice for me-time to focus on my health and my family.

In April, I got my iPhone!, I watched the Royal Wedding, I started my obsession with Origins skin care products, we had a mini getaway, and I started a new supplements regimen. Read the posts here.

In May, there were no blog posts (gasp!), but it was an eventful month for sure. Anand found out that he would be losing his job in 2 months. We took the positive approach and really thought about what we wanted in life.

Read about June HERE. We picked up our first CSA share of the season, which meant summer was officially here!

JULY brought me a lightbulb moment in regards to my journey to living a healthy lifestyle, I read a few books and bought some new make-up in an effort to take better care of myself, and tried some new recipes.

In AUGUST, we had a hurricane, Anand passed his PMP certification exam, we celebrated my mother's birthday, I had a day of "obstacles vs. opportunities", I found out that I got accepted into the pilot ME 4 Life program, and I beat cardiomyopathy! What a great month!

In September, Anand accepted a new position which aligned with the goals we had set, my parents sold my childhood home and started fresh, I cooked lots of healthy, delicious meals, started meal planning, shopped at Ulta, Maya & Suri started dance lessons, and I joined Birchbox. Read the posts HERE.

In October, we had family pictures taken which came out beautifully, We celebrated Halloween, decorated for Fall, I took a "ME"day, I donated blood, i joined ShoeDazzle, and continued making healthy & delicious recipes. Read the posts here

In November, we decided to redecorate the girls' bedroom, did a lot of shopping, and made a great pumpkin oat bran! Read the posts here.

December has been a great month-we decorated for Christmas, celebrated my birthday and the girls' 5th birthday! I started Project: ME!, we celebrated Christmas and now we're getting ready to ring in 2012 tomorrow night. Read the posts here. December 2012 is the month I've posted the most on this little blog. Blogging is my hobby, and is something I do for me. I enjoy it and see it as a journal of family & fun-something we can look back on to relive the memories we create.

2011 has been a great year, and I am looking forward to another great year in 2012!

Day 29 of Project: ME!

For day 29 of Project: ME, I gave myself the gift of new undergarments :) I had been wanting to buy some new things, but just hadn't made the time to actually do it. Well, thanks to my friend Vicki (AKA: Victoria's Secret!), I made it happen! I'll spare you the details :)

Day 28 of Project: ME!

Day 28 was full of planning and fun! I finalized our New Year's Eve plans, which are going to be SUPER FUN! After work, 3 of us (plus my daughters) went out to dinner for a coworker's birthday (she is a Christmas baby!). After dinner, we went to TJ Maxx. I was looking for shoes for NYE. I didn't find any, but I did find some awesome Carlos Santana boots for $39! LOVE them.

I also picked up an ionic professional hairdryer. I had been wanting one for a while since they supposedly cut drying time by 40%. This will be great for the girls' hair, which is super long and both take forever to dry.

Wigo Ulta Exclusive Pink Zebra Professional Hair Dryer

I also discovered the best thing since sliced bread (SERIOUSLY!) for the girls' hair. THIS BRUSH from Sally Beauty Supply. It's called a "Tangle Teezer". I was doubtful but it works like a charm! Maya was actually brushing her own hair! I think I'll go back and pick up 5 more in case it gets lost!

I picked up this nailpolish for NYE (China Glaze "Some Like it Haute")-it's a pretty, glittery black:

And they had this China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" mini for 85 cents, so I picked that up!

I also got a couple of pedicure essentials since they were buy 2, get 1 free:

Day 27 of Project: ME!

For Day 27 of Project: ME!, I gave myself the gift of "normalcy"! Normal to me (now) means feeling good through healthy eating and exercise. I feel my best with a good workout and good, healthy fuel. After several days of birthday & Christmas festivities full of treats, I wasn't feeling the way I like to feel. The great thing about this is that I now recognize this feeling immediately and I also know that it's not all or nothing! Healthiness is a journey and I can make choices that will affect how I feel. I started the day off in the gym. I also returned to good old healthy food. Both felt great! It feels great to be working towards my goals.

Day 26 of Project: ME!

Day 26 was spent enjoying family time! We all huddled around watching old episodes of  The Wonder Years on Netflix:

What a great show! Another great family day!

Day 25 of Project: ME!

Day 25 was Christmas Day! Anand woke the girls up because he was excited! They went downstairs and saw their presents Santa left and were super excited! We had breakfast, and then Sage & Shelbie came over to open gifts. We watched Christmas movies (A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and Uncle Buck) and then had Christmas dinner (capon). After dinner, we went to the movies to see:

Anand is a huge TinTin fan-he grew up on the comics, so couldn't wait to see the movie. We all liked it, although thought it was a bit "dragged out" in the end. The animation (or whatever you call it!) was unbelievable though! The characters all looked "real"! Amazing!

It was a very relaxing and great family day!

Day 24 of Project: ME!

Day 24 was Christmas Eve! I got up in the morning and enjoyed a cup of coffee-great way to start the day! We went and got groceries we needed for our Christmas breakfast & dinner, then headed home. I polished my nails and the girls' nails.  I took a long, leisurely shower and took my time getting all "primped" for Christmas Eve festivities at my parents' house. We went to my parents' house and visited with family, and then opened gifts. It was a great day!

Day 23 of Project: ME!

Day 23 was a fun day! I had to finish up Christmas shopping, so what better day to spend my birthday Ulta gift cards?! 2 birds, 1 stone?! Here is what I got:

I've been wanting to try one of these curling irons:

ConairInfiniti Curling Wand Styler

I'll need lots of practice!

A gift pack of my favorite shampoo/conditioner-it came with a full-sized hairspray and a gorgeous headband:

And I picked up this Essie Luxeffects polish:

LOVE! I painted my nails with the Zoya "Sookie" (red) that I got in my November Birchbox and then polished a coat of the Luxeffects. It's so pretty & festive! LOVE!

Oh, and I picked this up too!

Glee Volume 7 - Only at Target

I have all the Glee CDs and LOVE them! This one was a Target and you got 5 bonus tracks! LOVE Glee!

When I got home, we had a family movie night! We watched this:

Fun day!

Day 22 of Project: ME!

Day 22 was our office Christmas party at work. It was fun! We played Christmas carols-my favorites being the following:

The 12 Pains of Christmas This song cracks me up! The guy "rigging up the lights" reminds me of my father! Hilarious!

Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song  LOVE this! My favorite part? "OJ Simpson-NOT A JEW". Cracks me up every time!

And of course, my all time favorite, Santa Baby by Madonna  LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!

We exchanged gifts and just had a good time! After work, I stopped to pick up a few more gifts, and then headed home. I really need to finish up Christmas shopping and start wrapping. :)

Day 21 of Project: ME!

Day 21 was the gift of getting my family home safely! The weather was horrible-there was a fine coating of glare ice on the road from freezing rain. So, instead of doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, I decided to pick up the girls and head directly home.

Day 20 of Project: ME!

Day 20 was my twin daughters' 5th birthday! Birthday post to follow...

For Day 20 of Project: ME, I decided to give myself the gift of bringing smiles to someone else! :) I went to the dollar store and picked up 10 Santa hats. I "challenged" everyone I gave them to to wear them while driving. When they stop at a light or stop sign, to roll the window down and yell "MERRY CHRISTMAS". One of the girls I gave one to wore hers immediately. She was working with someone who was rather depressed, but she said when he saw her with the Santa hat, he immediately smiled. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!  We spread some Christmas Cheer!

Day 19 of Project: ME!

A cup of this:

Day 18 of Project: ME!

On Day 18, I drove back home and went to pick up Maya & Suri! We went to Whole Foods to pack me a healthy lunch for the road. We went home and got unpacked and prepared for the week ahead. It was great to be back with my girls and to be back at home.

Day 17 of Project: ME!

Day 17 was MY BIRTHDAY! And what a FABULOUS day it was! It started out with coffee in bed-love that! Anand gave me a card (along with a gift card to buy something special!) that he had written in. He wrote from the heart and it was beautiful :) He asked if there was anything special I wanted to do. Well, what do I love best? SHOPPING! So, we went to Providence Place. We walked around Tiffany and looked at all the beautiful jewelry in the pretty little blue boxes.

Then, we went to PF Changs for lunch. FABULOUS. We had the lettuce wraps and the Chang's Chicken Noodle Soup, which were both out of this world. After a leisurely lunch, we walked around the mall some more. We wandered upon a group of musicians playing Christmas Carols, so we decided to sit down and enjoy the music for a while. While we were sitting, all of a sudden, "snow" started falling! It was truly magical! So fun & romantic!

photo.JPG

After listening to the music, we got an iced coffee and walked around a bit. Then, we thought about going to the movies, but decided to go back to the hotel and rest for going out in the evening (people my age need to rest up LOL!). So that's what we did! After some rest, we got all dressed up to go for dinner. We went to Spain, which was the BEST restaurant I've ever been to. It was incredible! They had a valet & coat check, so I felt super fancy :) We went into the lounge and had a drink while waiting for our table. The service was absolutely impeccable! Once we were seated, they brought us some warm bread with an infused butter (heavenly) and I had a glass of their famous sangria. We decided to pass on appetizers since we wanted to enjoy our entrees. I ordered stuffed rainbow trout (stuffed with crab & shrimp), which was served with spanish rice and roasted vegetables (carrots, green beans). It was absolutely amazing! Anand had the Paella which he also loved. When our food was served, Anand asked one of our waiters (seriously, we had at least 4 of them-the service is so attentive!) to take a picture. What I didn't know at the time (genius move) was that he had typed on his phone that it was my birthday. So, the server took the picture without giving any hint whatsoever that he was reading something. Here is the picture:

photo.JPG

After our dinner, several waiters (their wait staff appeared to be all male-plus in my book :) )appeared with a small tres leche cake (OMG-words cannot even express how good that cake was!) and sang Happy Birthday to me in Spanish. I asked Anand how they knew and he told me. The waiter came over and told him it was the most creative way anyone has told him. He shook his hand :) It was funny!

It was a very memorable birthday with memories I'll cherish forever :)

Day 16 of Project: ME!

I had a really great day on Day 16! I dropped the girls off with Darcy for my weekend getaway, went to work, and then left early to go get my hair done. After my hair appointment, I headed out directly to meet Anand in Rhode Island. When I arrived, he immediately whisked me off for a sushi date!

photo.JPG

I had an Asian Pear Saketini that was to die for!

photo.JPG

In fact, it was so good I had another :)

The sushi was fabulous (we had already had a few pieces before I remembered to take a picture!)!

What a great day!

Day 15 of Project: ME!

Let's see...what did I do for ME yesterday?! Well, I picked up the CD with the girls' Nutcracker photos-that was exciting! I LOVE the pictures!

I packed last night. This weekend, Anand & I have the weekend ALONE! The girls are staying with Darcy and we're going away, so I'm super excited about that! I plan on celebrating my birthday all weekend long! :) I work until 12:30 today, I'm going to get my hair done and then I'll be on the road!

Have a great weekend!

More Day 14!

After my Birthday Celebration, we went to Bath & Body Works. I picked up some candles that were on sale 2/$20. I am loving the new aromatherapy scent-Nighttime Tea! I got that candle for my bedroom and a Balsam Fir one for the living room during the holidays. Smells just like a Christmas tree! The aromatherapy body washes were on sale for $5, so I picked up a Nighttime Tea one along with a matching lotion.

I'm sitting here right now with the candle burning and lotion on my arms-bliss!
