TEN POINT SEVEN

This morning I decided to try to tackle those hills again. I tackled, and added .7 mile to boot! It was definitely a bit easier today, but still hard! I may have told Anand " I hate those hills" when I got home. But, man...as much as I hate them, they totally motivate me and increase my confidence! I left home around 10:30 this morning and it was a super hot day. When I got home, I told the girls we were heading to the beach. It was 93 degrees! That may have also increased my confidence a bit  ( knowing I could ride in that heat)!

Here is a snapshot of my Strava app:

I'm proud of myself!

In gardening news, we harvested some butter lettuce tonight and made turkey taco mix lettuce wraps...yum!

Our First Garden!

We have talked about having a garden for a few years now. This year we finally went ahead and started one! Square foot gardening is what we decided to try since it's our first year-start small so we don't get overwhelmed! Anand built a box for our garden. He also built an irrigation system-very cool!

He mixed up some organic soil...

Suri helped:

As did Maya:

Good work, girls!

We have 16 sections! That is way more planting than I expected!

We also had two big pots that we used-one for herbs (cilantro & fenugreek), and one for tomatoes.

We wrote on the side of the box for fun.

Irrigation system:

Planting Time! We used all Plants this year (except carrots). Next year, we may try seeds.

Maya planting cucumbers:

Our heirloom tomato plants:

Watering time:

This was after we planted cucumbers, several varieties of peppers, and basil.

We also planted a few varieties of onions, leeks, rosemary, two types of basil, carrots, celery, eggplant, Bibb lettuce, lavender, red cabbage, and dill.

This was taken after a couple of days. We already have blossoms on the tomato plants and the cukes have new leaves!

Anand is now hooked. He has already built another box for next year!

I Have Basil SPROUTS!!

My basil sprouted today! I'm SO excited! Here are a couple of pictures...you can't really see anything, but there is a green little sprout in there!

Who wants to come over for an Italian dinner...since we have basil and all?!

Organic Gardening!

I've been taking an Organic Gardening class taught by the lovely Becky. This class was offered through ME First. I've learned a lot and am looking forward to having a raised bed garden (along with a couple of containers) this year. We had our second class on Monday and got to actually plant some seeds. I forgot my seeds (dum dum), but thankfully my buddy Kelly (and her friend) helped me out! I planted basil & cilantro! I'm going to keep updating this post as my "garden grows"!

Here are the seeds fresh after planting:
Aren't they pretty?! I covered it with plastic wrap, placed it in a warm spot, and have been watering daily. I can't wait to see some little sprouties!
